Historical Society lists holiday hours

The Kona Historical Society’s H.N. Greenwell Store &Museum and Portuguese Stone Oven Program, and the Kona Coffee Living History Farm will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday; Dec. 24 and 25 for Christmas; and Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. All regular days and hours of operation at both locations, besides these holidays, will still be observed and open to the public.

Photos with the Grinch offered

Every year around this time the Grinch makes his appearance at Kona Stories Book Store in Keauhou Shopping Center. The Grinch will pose for holiday photos with family and pets from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and again Dec. 7, 14 and 21. Bring a camera or the store will email a picture from its selection. This is a free event and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Portuguese bread available Wednesday

The Kona Historical Society Portuguese Bread Baking Program will be open Wednesday and will be closed Thursday. The public is invited to come and help roll out dough at 10 a.m. Wednesday and buy a warm, fresh loaf of Portuguese bread starting around 12:45 p.m. until it is sold out.

Harrison plans meditation sessions

“Walking Meditation in the Wild in North Kohala” with Gavin Harrison is scheduled from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Iole, the historic Bond homestead located at 53-496 Iole Road, Kapaau. The walk is not strenuous and will be followed by refreshments. Bring hat, hiking shoes, sunscreen, bottled water, a towel or cushion for rest stops, rain gear and mosquito repellent. Harrison will also offer an “Awakening to the Deepest Truth of Who We Are: A Gathering with Gavin Harrison from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Waimea Events Salon, 66-1664 Waiaka St., Waimea. There will be sitting and walking meditation, talk, dialog and inquiry. Groups are nondenominational and open to all. Experienced and beginning meditators and welcome and meditation guidance is offered. Bring a meditation cushion. Chairs are available. Donations are accepted. Excess produce helps the elderly

Gardeners with more produce than they can use are urged to bring their fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers to the Keauhou Farmers Market at Keauhou Shopping Center between 11 a.m and noon any Saturday. Aunties’ Angels, a 501(c)(3) will accept the produce and distribute it at the Hualalai Elderly Complex in Kailua-Kona. Any extra items will go to other elderly housing units. Receipts for tax purposes will be provided.
